Rodney Wayne Inducted into Hall of Fame
On a night filled with glamour and celebration, Rodney Wayne, the visionary founder of Rodney Wayne Hair Salons, was officially inducted into the Franchise Association of New Zealand (FANZ) Hall of Fame. The prestigious honour was announced at the Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards 2023 gala at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland. The evening, hosted by esteemed journalist and TV presenter Wendy Petrie, was a glittering occasion that marked Rodney Wayne’s enduring impact on the nation.

Brad Jacobs, the Chair of FANZ and joint director of The Coffee Club New Zealand, presented the award. In his tribute, Jacobs hailed Rodney Wayne as “a captain of industry who has made a large, positive contribution to the franchise sector over several decades.” The recognition acknowledged Rodney Wayne’s pioneering spirit and the lasting success of the iconic business he created.
Describing Rodney Wayne as one of the first New Zealand-owned and created franchise systems, Jacobs emphasised the brand’s growth. “They’re still going from strength to strength,” he remarked, highlighting the enduring legacy of Rodney Wayne Hair Salons in the ever-evolving franchise landscape. As one of the country’s trailblazers in franchising, Rodney Wayne was praised for being an active force that continues to inspire and lead. “The glue in this iconic system is super strong,” Jacobs emphasised, attributing the success to Rodney Wayne’s commitment to self-empowerment, innovation, and revealing the best in people – values that permeate the entire organisation. “He always aspires to excellence in franchising with ethical behaviour and a passion second to none,” Jacobs concluded, underlining the qualities that have set Rodney Wayne apart.
In his acceptance speech, Rodney Wayne expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I am truly very, very honoured,” thanking FANZ and the people who made the nomination. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “The franchising industry has been so good to me. I love my team; it’s a great environment.” Optimistic about the future, Rodney Wayne added, “I know we’re going to have a great next couple of years, and I look forward to it.”
