Winter is here, and so are the challenges it brings for our hair! Be ready to say goodbye to bad hair days and hello to luscious locks that defy the winter blues. Follow these expert winter hair care tips from Rodney Wayne Creative and Education Director Newton Cook.
1. Dose Up
Keep up with your Kérastase Fusio-Dose Treatments. Once a month is best. I always ensure moisture is incorporated in either the Booster or the Concentré. Talk to your stylist about the best blend for you.
2. Try the Silky Hair Secret
If you love wearing beanies in winter, opt for one with silk inside. You get the cozy comfort of the beanie, and the silk protects your hair by reducing tension and friction when putting on and removing it. The silk also helps fight frizz and reduce tangles.
3. Keep Your Masque On
Leave your Kérastase Masque in for an extra 5 minutes on clean, towel-dried hair when bathing or showering. It helps the masque to deeply penetrate and moisturise. My favourite winter masque right now is the Kérastase Chronologist Masque. This anti-aging hair treatment leaves the hair super shiny and hydrated. The light, luxurious tea-rose scent is so right for the season too.
4. Rain-Proof Your Hair
Rain not only flattens your mood, it also has consequences for your hair. Although the humidity is less in cold air, winter rain can be a real downer for your style. An umbrella is one solution, but sometimes you get caught. To protect your hairstyle and volume, my recommended way to make your hair partially waterproof is Colour Wow Dream Coat Spray. Spray liberally and evenly onto damp hair and blow dry. It leaves your strands soft, shiny, moveable, and light rain-resistant.
5. Give Tangles the Brush Off
One of my essential items – everyone must have – is a detangling brush designed for use when your hair is wet. My favorite is Tangle Teezer, The Wet Detangler. Using this when wet helps to reduce the tension when brushing and reduces hair breakage and snags; it’s also great to keep in the shower if you have long hair to help detangle and distribute your conditioner through the longer lengths.
