Hair Trends and predictions for the hottest hair styles and best hair colours - 2026

Looking for fresh inspiration for your hair? We’re here to help. Newton Cook, Creative & Education Director at Rodney Wayne, shares his predictions for the trends that will define 2026.

Soft, Long Layers with Face Shaping

Long hair isn’t going anywhere, but it’s evolving. “There will always be a place for long hair, but it’s getting a bit smarter,” says Newton. “Softer layers through the lengths with more shaping around the face to give movement and flow.”

The key? Subtlety. Nothing too heavy or dramatic, just enough that the hair cuddles the face and moves beautifully.

Warmer Creamy Blondes

Cool-toned ash blondes are taking a backseat this year. With Cloud Dancer as Pantone’s 2026 Colour of the Year, warmer, creamier blondes are having their moment.

“We will see a move away from Ash Blondes with their grey tones, as cooler tones don’t reflect light as well as a creamy, warmer blonde,” Newton explains. The goal is to stay on the lighter side while ensuring your blonde has that glossy look with a touch of warmth. It’s all about catching the light.

Caramel Brondes

Brunettes, this one’s for you. Caramel brondes are keeping things rich, luxe and incredibly glossy. Newton’s favourite shampoo recommendations for maintaining this colour? The Redken Acidic Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner, or the new Vitamino Colour Spectrum Range.

Shorter Styles with Natural Texture

Short hair is feeling relaxed and undone in 2026. Think crops, bobs and shorter cuts styled with natural texture rather than polished perfection. “Very Parisian vibes, paired with a cute fringe that feels effortless and cool,” says Newton.

Bold Colouring and Panelling

This year is about strong, strategic placement. Face framing, panels, hidden pops and statement pieces that elevate your look without going over the top. “It’s all about personalising it to the client,” Newton notes.

Glossy, Healthy Looking Hair

If there’s one universal goal for 2026, it’s this: hair that looks healthy. High shine, reflective finishes and that glossy, just-left-the-salon feel. This is hair that catches the light and feels amazing to touch.

Scalp Health

The foundation of great hair? A healthy scalp. “Clients are way more aware that good hair starts at the scalp,” says Newton. “Expect more conversations around exfoliation, balance and treatments that actually support long term hair health.” Newton’s go-to regimen at the moment? Alternating between the Kérastase Potentialiste and the L’Oréal Serioxyl.
